The 2101 eruption of Mt Azuma was a devastating eruption that would later receive a VEI 6 rating form the JMA. The eruption led to the deaths of 217 people, and caused $81 billion in damages, mainly from the violent pyroclastic flows that emerged from the volcano whilst it was erupting.
